This past week my husband and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary. This is the first year we didn’t “get away” to celebrate but it certainly ranks as one of the sweetest yet. my husband came home with a bouquet of fall flowers and a bottle of wine. We reminisced over a home cooked meal of Santa Fe Chicken – a recipe that we cooked together back when we were dating – and Spanish Rice. It was nice to have a quiet night inside.
I think what makes this anniversary so sweet is that October hit and nothing major is happening to us! In October 2007, we got married. In October 2008, we moved to Austin, TX. In October 2009, we had a baby. Don’t get me wrong. Each of those events were very special but also came with a lot of stress. Now in October 2010, I feel more settled in my spirit. We’ve navigated some big challenges the first few years and now I am perched in a place of peace. Sure, I am restless at times to be doing something other than mother and using my skills and gifts more. But if I take a moment – like I did today sitting outside feeding Mac his lunch while I sipped my pumpkin spice latte – and just enjoy the stillness I am very grateful and content. (I better enjoy this before I have a full fledged toddler, right!)
Tuesday night we were in for dinner but Saturday we went out! We went to the Mansion at Judges Hill. I’ve been wanting to go to this place ever since we moved here. A friend of mine back home who went to UT recommended it. The atmosphere and food were wonderful! We sat outside on the terrace. It was a beautiful night. Very quiet and still. The food tasted incredible. I tried the antelope, which the server recommended, and it was so very Texas – had a nice kick to it! my husband had pork which was probably better yet. I would go back for the entrees in a heartbeat but not dessert. We ordered the cake pops, and Alison Smith if you’re reading this, we want you to know that yours are WAY better!
What a fun and memorable evening. I think that I am ready to start having a babysitter watch Mac more regularly. Up until now it’s been hard to be out while my heart is back home with him. On Saturday, I could have stayed out quite awhile…if it wasn’t for the fact that I was so tired. When we got home Little Cutie Pie surprised us by being AWAKE! I totally wasn’t expecting that cause he usually stays asleep. We were greeted with a big smile that said, “I got my way! I’m awake!” Too cute.
