Last week while we were on vacation Mac turned six months! (Beach vacation photos to come!) Where has the last half of a year gone? I am enjoying being a mom even more than I imagined. I’ve heard so many people use the word “hard” to describe motherhood, and while there have most certainly been those moments, so far I’m having a blast – if only other things in life came as easily to me!
This morning we went in for his 6 mo well check. I can’t believe how far he’s come. He started out real small (4 lbs, 14 oz) but then made some significant strides in growth early on. At his 4 mo visit he was in the 50% percentile for height and weight at 14 lbs, 11 oz. Just this morning at his six mo visit he dropped down to the 25% for weight (16 lbs, 4 oz) and the 20% for height (25 1/4 in.) I’m surprised that he’s not in a much higher percentile for height given that his father is 6 ft, 6 in tall but he’s got time to catch up!
I love this age so much. At six months he’s much more aware of his surroundings and the familiar people in his life. He definitely recognizes my husband and me and responds to us differently than others. He becomes very playful with my husband and searches for me when he wants to be comforted. Both of us are more apt to get smiles than unfamiliar faces. I’ve noticed that we have an super observant child. He’ll intently study others before performing or participating in anything going on around him. I hope that as parents we’ ll be able to know him to the extent that we need in order to help him become all of who God intended him to be. I am eager to see who he becomes as he grows.
