It’s easy to feel inadequate as a mom, at least it is for me. I fight it by trying to become good enough. But I think the key to overcoming it, is accepting that I am indeed inadequate. That’s when there is room for God to work. If Nathan has taught me anything, it is that when I am weak, then I am strong.
Remember this incredibly controversial cover story from TIME magazine a couple of years ago?
Are you mom enough?
Could it be that we’ve been asking the wrong question all along? And that really the answer lies in God being enough. It’s not all up to us. I don’t know about you, but to me that is good news. Something we should celebrate this Mother’s Day.
I wish I could say, I’m offering you this free e-book as a Mother’s Day gift, but I can take zero credit. The Desiring God organization is offering it as a free download however. You can head over here and download a copy for your Kindle or iPad. It’s broken into short chapters, but it gives you lots to think on throughout the day. Consider it a Mother’s Day gift to yourself.
Happy Mother’s Day!
But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the most gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” – 2 Cor 12:9-10
