Frantic for support from someone who had been through a similar experience, I contacted Hand to Hold last summer. Hand to Hold is a non-profit dedicated to helping NICU parents. We were in the thick of facing many tough decisions about Nathan’s care and I was matched with a peer-mentor who had been through something similar. In fact, when she came to my home to visit she said, “Oh, we had one of those!” referring to the IV pole in my family room with the Kangaroo Joey feeding pump. We learned that we delivered at the same hospital and were transferred to the same Children’s hospital. Her love for reading has provided some book recommendations that have been a source of great encouragement to me. Here’s our little story in the September Helping Hands Highlight.
