We did it. We made it a year. It was a crazy hard year. It was a crazy good year.
Back in the beginning one of our favorite neonatologists told us that N would enrich our lives. I didn’t fully believe that one year ago. It’s something that I’ve had to live in order to understand. But he truly has enriched our lives, though not at all in the way I expected. Dr. Michael simply helped us pay close attention to it so that we wouldn’t miss the treasure buried deep within all the pain.
N has taught me the true meaning of the most important things. I learned about unconditional love and acceptance through my own child. I learned about strength and courage through my weak infant son. I learned about perseverance and endurance through someone who is completely dependent (and may always be) on others to care for him. It’s nothing he does. It’s who he is. He has shown up on this planet and has blessed people merely through his presence.
Yesterday on N’s actual birthday, my husband pushed both boys in the sMiles4Sammy Family Fun Run. He was the very last person across the start line. It was a picture to me of “the last shall be first.”
And he finished so strong. I’m amazed by his time. He says he missed his goal by 56.3 seconds but he came out a winner to me.
You are so loved little N. Just look at all of your friends who came out to support you in the sMiles4Sammy run. Happy Birthday baby!Thank you guys! We love you and appreciate you all so very much.
